France | Academic Year Program

French school with a specific option

CEI is thrilled to present an exciting opportunity : studying at a French secondary school (Collège or Lycée) while living with a welcoming volunteer host family. Students can also practice their favorite sport or activity for 4 to 8 hours per week.

Living in a French host family

Living with a host family offers an exceptional opportunity to fully immerse yourself in a new culture. Our diverse host families are carefully selected to ensure a meaningful experience. We dedicate considerable effort to matching students with families based on their profiles, personalities, and shared interests, ensuring a comfortable and enriching stay. This method not only enhances cultural understanding but also fosters lasting relationships and unforgettable memories. Students are placed in a host family on a full board basis.

CEI can offer these specific options

Students can practice their favorite sport or activity* for 4 to 8 hours per week.

About 80 sports and activities are available in the 700 French schools : rugby, football, dance, drama, music, swimming, basketball, handball, rowing…

*some club fees are additionnal.

Program

Students are placed in either public or private schools and attend classes five days a week, typically from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm or 6:00 pm, alongside their French peers.

Students aged 14-15 are placed in Troisième, while those aged 15-16 are placed in Seconde. They generally study subjects such as French literature, foreign languages, history, math, economics, and science. Students aged 16-17, placed in Classe de Première, and students aged 17-18, placed in Classe de Terminale will focus on one of three academic tracks: Literature, Economics, or Sciences. All classes are taught in French.

Language training option

CEI proposes 2 or 3 week-long intensive French language courses, before the beginning of the High School program. This program takes place at the CEI language school in Saint-Malo every August and in Paris every January.

This language course is specifically recommended for students who might not feel confident enough or wish to improve their language skills before participating in the Academic Year Program.

Saint-Malo : 1300€ (2 weeks), 1600€ (3 weeks)
Paris January : 1600€ (2 weeks)

Participants

Students must be between 14 and 18 years old during their stay in France. They will go through an interview process to assess their language skills and motivation.

Accommodation with a host family

Accommodation with a host family. Full pension.

Host region

Students are placed throughout France.

Meet and greet service

Transfer on arrival : included in the program price.
Transfer on departure : 200€ (optional – can be arranged upon request).

More information about medical insurance is available upon request.

Academic year in France, specific option

Academic and host family immersion.

Transfer on arrival : included in the program price.

Transfer on departure : 250€ (optional – can be arranged upon request).

Valid identity documents for a stay in France.
Please check the exact conditions for entering France (visa, authorizations, etc…).

Processing of the student application, research and selection of a French host family (interview, visit of the house and environment).
Full board with a host family.
Enrollment and attendance at a French secondary school, school lunches and school expenses (for private schools).
Supervision and assistance by a CEI area representative as well as by the staff of the central office.
A local orientation meeting in September and January (all program duration – the meeting can be private or attended in a group).
Transfer cost to the host community (transfer on arrival – includes the booking and purchase of the domestic train/plane ticket by CEI + CEI escort and emergency phone line on day of arrival).
